Six women, one tailoring unit
Pappampatti, Coimbatore district
After tailoring training under the Vazhvizhi Project's Sakthimaiyam initiative, six women in Pappampatti set up a tailoring unit together.
The Sakthimaiyam initiative under Vazhvizhi Project Phase I gave rural women in Pappampatti the chance to learn tailoring and build a sustainable livelihood from it.
After completing their training, six women came together to set up a tailoring unit in Pappampatti. Working collectively, they are taking steps towards self-employment, income generation and economic independence.
The unit is the women's commitment to turning the skills they learned into a lasting livelihood, and a demonstration of what collective entrepreneurship, teamwork and community-based livelihood support can achieve.
It has helped them move beyond training to real work, and with it, greater confidence, independence and better economic prospects.
