“A pushcart, and a shop of my own”

By Famitha, Pattinambakkam, Chennai

After separation and years without a steady income, a pushcart became a petty shop, and an independent living.

My name is Famitha, and I am from Pattinambakkam, Chennai. I lost my father at a young age, and my family faced severe financial struggles. Unable to continue my education, I worked in embroidery and domestic jobs to support my family.

After marriage, I faced abuse and eventually separated from my husband, returning to live with my mother without a steady income. Managing daily needs became a constant challenge.

A major turning point in my life came when I received support from Native Medicare Charitable Trust (NMCT) in the form of a pushcart. With this opportunity, I started a small petty shop in my locality, which gradually brought regular income, confidence, and independence.

Today, I proudly support my family with dignity and hope. This opportunity transformed my life, and I aspire to expand my business and create a secure future.
