TI Migrants Project, Tirupur
HIV/AIDS and STI awareness, counselling, testing and referral for migrant workers, at their workplaces and homes, across 13 blocks of Tirupur district.
The Targeted Intervention (TI) programme works with migrant workers, many of whom have little awareness of HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Outreach workers meet migrants at their workplaces and where they live, with information and services for HIV/AIDS and STI prevention.
The project takes a community-based outreach approach: identifying migrants at risk, educating and counselling them, and linking them with the right healthcare and government services. The work includes outreach and awareness sessions, counselling, events, condom promotion and demonstration, screening camps for HIV, STIs, TB and Hepatitis B and C, testing, referral and follow-up.
April to August 2026
37 new industries identified and 5,643 migrant beneficiaries registered.
835 group meetings reaching 15,802 migrants, 2,173 counselling sessions and 26 drop-in centre visits.
60 community-based screening camps where 2,173 people were tested, and 358 referrals to Integrated Counselling and Testing Centres.
3 people newly diagnosed with HIV, and 14 on continuing antiretroviral therapy.
86 STI camps where 3,435 people were tested and 5 identified with STI symptoms.
11 advocacy meetings, 9 street plays, 12 demand-generation activities, 17 exhibitions and 3 congregation events.
440 social-marketing condom sales and 4,269 free condoms distributed.
Intensified HIV/AIDS and STI Prevention Campaign, 2026
An intensified campaign among migrant workers in Tirupur strengthened awareness of HIV/AIDS and STI prevention through workplace and residential outreach, counselling, HIV and STI testing, referrals, condom promotion and linkage to healthcare services.
