Improving Access to Government Identification Documents and Welfare Schemes for Adivasi Communities
Helping Adivasi families in 35 hamlets of the Anamalai Tiger Reserve obtain identity documents and enrol in the government welfare schemes they are entitled to.
Many Adivasi households in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve cannot claim welfare schemes they are eligible for, because they lack the government identification documents those schemes require, or the means to navigate the systems that issue them.
The Azim Premji Project (AIWA) works across 35 Adivasi hamlets in Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts to close that gap. Over two years, from May 2026 to April 2028, it identifies eligible households, helps them prepare and verify their documents, submits applications through e-Sevai and the relevant government departments, and follows each one through to approval and benefit.
What the project does
Baseline household surveys to find gaps in documents and entitlements.
Identifying eligible beneficiaries and raising awareness of the schemes available to them.
Documentation and verification support.
Applications through e-Sevai, online portals and government departments.
Follow-up on pending applications, and correction of rejected ones.
Tracking approvals and benefits through a management information system (MIS).
The work is planned against a Programme Design Document and baseline data, and monitored and reported through the MIS.
