NMCT has established Abhaya Sadan in 2016 for the neglected and abandoned Elderly Women. Economic hardships in the family, misunderstanding & break in relationships, Ill treatment, humiliation and neglected by complete family members drive hundreds of elderly women to old age homes.
They face the problems such as failed health, isolation and mental health problems. They are stressed on the physical disabilities and problems of mobility.
Abhaya Sadan is an old age home exclusively for the elderly women over the age of 60.It is Situated at SS Garden near Kanuvai behind Yuvabharathy Public School.
It provides protective shelter, free food and medical services, with the support of Donors.
Bethammal's family background is extremely meagre. Her parents are both illiterate. During her childhood the family moved around to sell handicrafts made by her father, so their living place was just a tent. For the children's education they later settled in Coimbatore and established themselves a small thatched hut. Bethammal dropped out of school before she had completed her 5th standard and was about to work as a child labour in the construction field. The NMCT identified her and admitted in Abhaya in 2008 and it gave her the chance to continue her studies. Abhaya home took care for higher studies upto completing the Nursing course. Now she is the Warden and Nurse taking care of the Abhaya home and children.
