Who we are?

Native Medicare Charitable Trust

Native Medicare Charitable Trust registered in 1988 commenced its activities in cultivation of medicinal plants and preparation of Herbal Medicines followed by interventions with the project on Bio-diversity conservation in 1992 in association with Dr. M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation. Awareness Programs on Waste Management, National Environment Campaign, Environmental Education to School Students and Natural Resources Management were conducted from 1992 to 2008.

During 1998 to 2002 and 2005 to 2006, we have closely associated with Kovai Child Labor Abolition Service Society, rescued child laborers from the bricklins and mainstreamed them to school education. Similar Project was undertaken from 2004-2007 funded by Karl Kubel Stiftung, Germany. 20 special schools were organized and 1625 children were educated during this period. Education to the under-privileged and destitute girl children are provided by providing them protective shelter at Abhaya Students Shelter.

On health services, awareness programs to school students were conducted from 1997-1998 and to community people from 1999-2003. Care and Support was provided to people and children infected by HIV/AIDS under Community Based Care and Support program from 2002-2009. A special program on Children affected by HIV/AIDS was also conducted from 2007-2009 followed by Care and Support project in Pollachi from 2011-2014.

NMCT was working for prevention counseling and clinical treatments to around 2150 Transgender in Coimbatore and Tirupur districts. They were also trained in catering, beautician, computer, videography, cell phone services, tailoring thus relieved them from sex work. 11000 male sex workers were organized during 2007-2008 by the program collectivization of male sex workers. Community Based Organizations namely “TAI Vizudhugal” were established 5 districts namely Coimbatore, Madurai, Salem, Vellore and Chennai

Our livelihood support started from 1999 with a small project on socio-economic uplift for 30 Tribal families in Anaikatti, Women Development program during 2001-2003. Program on Livelihood Sustainability for Tribals in Anaikatti was also conducted from 2002-2005, Economic development for Tribal women from 2004-2006 by cultivation of medicinal plants. We continue our interventions in many thematic areas of Education, Health and Livelihood supports since 2014.
